Kayak fishing

Kayak fishing has become increasingly popular in recent years, giving greater accessibility and flexibility, particularly for the saltwater fly fishing and lure fishing enthusiasts. The kayak enables them to reach hidden bays, or shallow water reefs, or follow shoals of fish feeding offshore, all previously inaccessible to the shore based angler.

There is now a wide selection of reasonably priced kayaks available, which has helped to popularise this particular branch of the sport. However a word of caution. It can also be a dangerous past time, especially if the kayaker does not have all the right equipment and/or follow stringent safety procedures, as well as apply a lot of commonsense before venturing out.

BASS member, David Morris, an experienced kayaker and bass angler has written an article about getting started in kayak fishing based on his experience. This article has been placed on this website for prospective kayakers to read.

Be aware! Kayak fishing is an extreme sport, when taking to the water in any craft you need to act responsibly and carry some very necessary safety equipment.
